Citizen Participation using Virtual Reality

Citizen Participation using Virtual Reality

Computer science students of the Cooperative State University of Loerrach are developing a solution of citizen participation using virtual reality meeting rooms. Therefore they created a set of different rooms as a browser based setup. These rooms can be used by the public administration to communicate information to the citizens as an easy usable solution. The rooms were implemented using the Unity 3D VR engine and the Oculus Rift VR headset. 3 types of rooms:Lobby: Presentation of different type of information (pictures, PDF, videos). Visitors can enter the room without registration anytime, no limit to the number of visitors.Presentation hall: A speaker is holding a presentation at a certain time, voice chat, visitors can enter the room without registration, no limit to the number of visitors.Meeting room/round table: a room…

First Project using the new Raspberry Pi 3

First Project using the new Raspberry Pi 3

Our first project using the brand new Raspberry Pi 3 will go live next week. It is used to control a shopwindow display showing actual informations to the people outside. The Pi connects to the internet using the now integrated WiFi module and plays a Powerpoint Presentation  automatically after the start. The PPP is stored in the cloud using Microsoft OneDrive. After the start, the Epiphany webbrowser is started. The PPP is loaded by opening the "shared-link". This will open automatically PowerPoint Online. Issue: Powerpoint online will not start automatically a PPP in the presentation mode, that's a missing feature and we really don't understand why Microsoft doesn't implement that to Powerpoint Online. But we have a workaround: Using "xdotool" our script is sending simulated keystrokes to the browser which select…
